Get a fresh breeze of Gaas­tra fash­ion: Les Voiles de St-Barth Sports­wear Col­lec­tion 2011

Maxis and Mul­ti­hulls started on the first rac­ing day of Les Voiles de Saint Barth 2011 in 22 knots as the first two classes. Encoun­ter­ing two meter seas and break­ing the waves through a 25-nautical mile course, Georg David’s Ram­bler 100 with Ken Read (USA) as skip­per placed first in the Maxi Class that day. The fre­quent com­peti­tor on the Caribbean cir­cuit Peter Har­ri­son (UK) with 115-foot Farr designed ketch Sojana, out­lined: “St Barth’s is very sin­gu­lar, you don’t have to move a mark, there are nat­ural marks every­where. You can design a very nice race course along the shore. It’s very excit­ing for the crew, and excit­ing for the view­ing, and makes this event unique.” Tony Rey of Peter Cunningham’s Farr 60 Ven­omous (CAY) in the Rac­ing Class com­pleted: “We had some great sail­ing – St. Barth’s is such an awe­some place to sail, every time you turn around an island, or a piece of land, the view just gets bet­ter and bet­ter.“ In the rac­ing class Anti­lope, William Wester (NED) placed first as well as Black Hole, Jeroen Min (UK) in Rac­ing Cruis­ing Class, Mariella (Clas­sic) of Carlo Fal­cone (ITA) and Fat Cat, John Win­ter in Mul­ti­hull Class. We are all curi­ous about the com­ing hap­pen­ings and results! After two days of caribbean rac­ing, there will be one day off today for the 400+ sailors on thurs­day to relax and enjoy the French Saint Barth’s style. After the open­ing cer­e­mony on Quai Général de Gaulle at Port de Gus­tavia and the press brief­ing at the lux­ury Carl Gustaf Hotel on mon­day — nat­u­rally in the lat­est Gaas­tra St. Barth Col­lec­tion 2011 — the first spec­tac­u­lar yachts of the exclu­sive five-class regatta will start its chal­lenges today. The fore­cast called for east­erly trade winds of 22 knots, pro­vid­ing a great start to the week. Well-known Ken Read, who had more than 40 world titles in var­i­ous classes and became 2 time Rolex yachts­men of the year said: “Ram­bler and Leop­ard are two huge mon­sters. They are designed for long ocean races and major off­shore courses. They are record-breaking boats”. You can hear the long expected start­ing sig­nal for Les Voiles de St. Barth 2011 today! More than fifty yachts and boats of every sizes and classes will chal­lenge this week in the mag­i­cal set­ting of caribbean Saint Barthelemy. Inter­na­tional top-skippers will par­tic­i­pate from april 4th to april 9th 2011 in the classes super and maxi yachts of 21 meters min­i­mum long, clas­sic, rac­ing, racing-cruising and racing-multihull. St.-Barth — island of the super-rich

Have you already heard about Caribbean’s fash­ion­able and most exclu­sive island St. Barth? It’s a per­fect lit­tle one with beau­ti­ful white sand beaches and crys­tal blue water. St. Barth was dis­cov­ered by Christo­pher Colum­bus and named after his brother, Bar­tolomeo.
The island is only 21 square kilo­me­ters in size and has a pop­u­la­tion of 8 450 peo­ple. The lan­guage, cui­sine and cul­ture are dis­tinctly French.
St. Barth boasts with 20 par­a­disial beaches — there is some­thing for every­one: beach going, yacht­ing, jet ski­ing, snor­kel­ing, fish­ing and surf­ing.
Most of the year puffy white clouds parade through a clear blue sky and warm balmy breezes gen­tly ruf­fle hair. That cer­tainly offers the very best sail­ing con­di­tions with sun­shine, winds and lively seas.
This year the sec­ond edi­tion of the Voiles de Saint-Barth is tak­ing place between the fourth and ninth of April 2011 whereof Gaas­tra has become offi­cial partner.

But not only sail­ing is inter­est­ing on St. Barth – if you like to meet some VIPs, you have to visit St. Barth. The two-week period just before Christ­mas through the New Year is the busiest and most-loved time for par­tys in St. Barth.
