Pieter-Jan (PJ as he is also known) is a 28-year-old tal­ent. By the age of 12 he was sail­ing an Opti­mist in the Euro­pean Cham­pi­onships, and at 15 he took part in the World Cham­pi­onships in Dublin. PJ then began sail­ing the Laser Radial, mak­ing the tran­si­tion to the Laser at the age of 17. In 2000, he sailed in the Syd­ney World Youth Cham­pi­onships and par­tic­i­pated in a string of inter­na­tional races. After an inter­val of 5 years, PJ decided to sail in the Finn class. He went into inten­sive train­ing again, and in 2006 he sailed in the World Cham­pi­onships, going on to sail many national and inter­na­tional races, fin­ish­ing reg­u­larly in the top 10. Last year he took Gold in the Dutch Open Cham­pi­onships in Medem­b­lik, and he came first in Loos­drecht dur­ing the Boerenkool Cup. This year Pieter-Jan Postma gained dur­ing the World­cup in Hyeres France the bronze medal result­ing in an Olympic nom­i­na­tion. The Women’s Soc­cer World Cup is rec­og­nized as the most impor­tant inter­na­tional com­pe­ti­tion in women’s foot­ball and is played amongst women’s national foot­ball teams of the mem­ber states of FIFA, the sport’s global gov­ern­ing body. Con­tested every four years, the first Women’s World Cup tour­na­ment, named the Women’s World Cham­pi­onship, was held in 1991, 61 years after the men’s first FIFA World Cup tour­na­ment in 1930. The cur­rent for­mat has six­teen teams com­pet­ing every four years for the winner’s trophy.

The 2011 Women’s Soc­cer World Cup is being held from 26 June to 17 July 2011 in Ger­many, which won the right to host the event in Octo­ber 2007. The matches are played in nine sta­di­ums in nine host cities around the coun­try, with the final being played at the in Frank­furt. 16 teams were selected for par­tic­i­pa­tion via a world­wide qual­i­fi­ca­tion tour­na­ment that began in 2009. In the first round of the tour­na­ment finals, the teams com­pete in round-robin groups of four teams for points, with the top two teams in each group pro­ceed­ing. These eight teams advance to the knock­out stage, where two rounds of play decide which teams will par­tic­i­pate in the final.

8 days, a tra­di­tion of over 50 years and 243 nau­ti­cal miles to chal­lenge: The 15th jubilee edi­tion of the renowned Giraglia Rolex Cup in Mediter­ranean sea, will be held these days start­ing today from 18–25 June 2011. The Giraglia Cup is named after the his­toric French island Giraglia at the north­ern tip of Cor­sica where the sail­ing route of the Giraglia Offshore-Race will pass by as well. The pre­lude of the renowned keel­boat regatta begins with a series of inshore races in the Gulf of Saint Tropez and flows into the main 450 km long dis­tance regatta set­ting off at St. Tropez via Giraglia island and fin­ish­ing in Gen­ova, Italy.

This years Giraglia Rolex Cup, organ­ised by the Yacht Club Ital­iano in col­lab­o­ra­tion with the Société Nau­tique de Saint-Tropez, promises to be anew spec­tac­u­lar sail­ing event with many inter­na­tional teams and impres­sive sail­ing boats. The event is run under the super­vi­sion of the Fed­er­azione Ital­iana Vela, the Fédéra­tion Française de Voile, and, with the col­lab­o­ra­tion of the City of Saint-Tropez, the Yacht Club de France and the Yacht Club San­remo.
