The Gaastra Crew was told in advance that the SAIL Amsterdam is one of the largest sailing events in the world – but we had no idea how impressive that was.
In the early morning we got carried down the IJ (the river that runs through Amsterdam) to change onto the pretty norwegian sailing boat “Sorlandet”. From this moment on it was already impossible to count all the little boats, big sailing yachts and modern ships that surrounded us. Every boat had its own fancy character and individual history to present. During the five hour Sail In Parade back to Amsterdam you had an unique view on nautical history with hundreds and thousands of visitors on riverside.
The Gaastra Crew enjoyed every minute of it and was proud more than ever to wear the SAIL Amsterdam Collection 2010.

Last week-end (19-22 August) it was invited through a journey of time in Laboe – the German Classics 2010. Over 150 classic yachts were expected in the harbor of Laboe. The visitors had the opportunity to see impressive old sailing boats in a maritime atmosphere.
Short races on Friday and the traditional long distance race on Saturday provided a sportive frame, culinary delights teased the palate and maritime art from the view point of modern artists fascinated the eye. A variety of live music on the festivity grounds made sure that everyone was getting into a good mood. Furthermore Gaastra was one of the main sponsors for the event German Classics 2010.

It’s always nice to see the maritime and sportive looks of Gaastra which complete this amazing atmosphere! Have a glance at our Gaastra E-Store to get this maritime look at yourselves!

Today one of the largest maritime manifestations in the world begins. Till August 23rd 2010 the 8th edition of SAIL Amsterdam will take place. In 1975 the first edition of SAIL was held to celebrate the 700^th anniversary of Amsterdam. The event was a great success, resulting in the second SAIL event in 1980. Over the years SAIL Amsterdam has become the largest, freely accessible public event in the Netherlands. During the SAIL event impressive fleets will be present in the IJ (the river which runs through Amsterdam), such as tall ships, maritime heritage, modern ships and replicas. During these five days there is plenty to do with a changing program of culture and sporting activities. The theme of SAIL 2010 will be: a nautical encounter between past, present and future.

Have you seen the spectacular Drachenboat Cup 2010 where the Gaastra team ended second out of sixteen teams? It took place in Hamburg at the 11th of June 2010 and was brought to Germany by Michael Stich, the well-known tennis player.
